The Mentor Program
Is first rate. We learn from each other while we play and work. Together we develop self actualization, leadership, community service and emotional literacy.
What will I get out of this?
You’ll have fun and get stronger. We’ll challenge you physically, mentally, and spiritually. You’ll start to know your own power, and meet friends who are interested in going somewhere.
What happens besides the weekend?
After you complete The Rights of Passage Adventure Weekend you are called a Journeyman. We have ongoing activities that include fun events, social service, and skill building.
How old do I have to be?
We accept teenaged boys who are ready to commit to taking this next step into manhood.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]What is a mentor?
A mentor is a personal ally and supporter. A mentor is not a teacher or surrogate parent. Some young men think of them as uncles or big brothers. Boys to Men screens our volunteers carefully. We’re looking for good men who are already successful in their own lives. Then Boys to Men shares what we know with our mentors: that young men are already excellent, and that mentors get as much as mentees from their friendships.
Is this a religious program?
No, Boys to Men has no religious affiliation or religious teachings. “Some chapters of Boys to Men operate out of church facilities that have been offered to them, but this implies no links to the beliefs or practices of the churches involved. Boys to Men supports each boy’s individual spiritual tradition and journey.”
Boys to Men does support truth, integrity and responsibility.
How many guys are there on the weekend?
There isn’t an exact number but you won’t be alone. The weekend can accommodate anywhere between 10 and 40 boys. It is normally staffed by Journeyman and mentors from Boys to Men of Greater Washington as well as men from other centers.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”2356″ alignment=”right” onclick=”custom_link” link=”http://boystomengw.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Candidate_kit_too.pdf”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]
